Buttermilk Biscuits

This Buttermilk Biscuit recipe is my favorite biscuit recipe of all time. I make them weekly and have been enjoying them for my entire adult life!

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: All purpose flour, butter, buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Variations: Add half a cup of shredded cheese, A few tablespoons of chopped or sliced jalapenos, a quarter cup of finely diced pepperoni, bacon or ham.

White cheddar and pepperoni, orange cheddar and jalapeno, Ham and Swiss, Bacon and smoked gouda, Smoked mozzarella and pepperoni, 2 cloves of minced garlic and cheddar.

Make giant sized biscuits for sandwiches and mini biscuits for appetizers.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups All purpose flour

  • 1 Tbsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 3/4 tsp Salt

  • 5 Tbsp Butter, lard or shortning, chilled

  • 1 Cup Buttermilk

Directions

  • Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Mix dry ingredients together and cut butter in to the flour mixture until it resembles “crumble”.
  • Stir in buttermilk until just incorporated.
  • Dump dough out on to a lightly floured surface, pat into a square 3/4 ” thick. Use a knife and simply press through dough making 12 biscuits (or more if you like them smaller). Move to a pan lined with parchment paper, Brush tops with heavy cream.
  • Bake @ 425 degrees 10-12 minutes until tops start to turn golden brown.
