Easter Bread

Easter Bread is good for any brunch, its delicious! After a day, slice it up for toast, French toast, use it for bread pudding! Is soft, slightly sweet, a little spicy and oh so delicious!

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: Bread flour, butter, yeast, salt, egg, water, milk powder, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, orange zest, lemon zest, raisins and orange extract. Icing- powdered sugar and orange juice.

Variations: Wheat flour can be used, other dried fruit can replace raisins, use the spices you like, honey or sugar substitute can replace sugar, Use your choice of citrus zest.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups warm water

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast or 1 pckt

  • 1 large egg, room temp

  • 3/4 stick butter, melted and cooled

  • 1/4 cup dry milk powder

  • 4 – 5 cup bread flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 zest of 1 orange

  • 1 zest of 1 lemon

  • 1 tsp orange extract

  • 1 tsp vanilla powder or extract

  • Icing
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • juice of 1 orange

Directions

  • Bloom yeast in water with sugar and let set for 5 – 10 minutes until frothy, then add flour and the rest of the ingredients. and knead for 5-10 minutes. Put into greased pan, cover and place in a warm area to rise for 1 1/2 – 2 hours until doubled in size.
  • heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bake at 350° for 45 minutes until golden brown.
  • Butter top of bread if desired. Mix ingredients for icing and pour over bread! Let set for an hour before slicing into.

Notes

  • This dough recipe can be divided into 2 or more smaller loaves!
