Homemade Basic Granola

Nothing could be easier or more delicious than making homemade granola. Making granola at home is nice because you can customize it any way you like it! Use what you have on hand.

Ingredients and Variations

Main Ingredients: Rolled oats, coconut oil, maple syrup, vanilla and salt.

Variations and additions: Use the sweetener you like, honey, maple syrup, brown sugar or sugar substitute. The coconut oil can be swapped for avocado, sunflower or other oil of choice. Add extra flavor with extracts such as, maple, almond, orange, cinnamon, coffee… Add in any spices you like, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, cloves, allspice……

You will need 2 cups of add in’s for this recipe, such as: chopped nuts, wheat germ, flax seed, chia seed, hemp seed, sunflower seeds, dried fruits and shredded coconut.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 2 rolled oats

  • 2 cups 2 mix in’s – chopped nuts, dried fruits, shredded coconut, flax seed, chia seed, hemp seed, sunflower seeds

  • 2 tsp 2 ground cinnamon or spice of your choice

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 coconut oil

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp 2 pure cane brown sugar

  • 1 tsp 1 vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 tsp 1 1/2 maple extract *optional

  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 kosher salt

Directions

  • Heat oven to 300°.
  • In a large bowl, toss together oats, spice and mix in’s.
  • In a microwave safe measuring cup, whisk together oil, maple syrup, sugar and salt. Microwave 1 minute to dissolve sugar. Whisk in extracts and pour over granola, toss well to coat completely.
  • Spread onto 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake at 300° for 25 – 30 minutes stirring every 10 minutes.
  • Cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Will stay fresh for up to a month.
