The epitome of summer right here!! I’m from Michigan and this sauce is a religion! Its like a chili flavored bolognese for your hot dog. It almost always makes an appearance on my table at our July 4th celebration every year. You are never gonna buy another can of chili sauce from the store again, you will be hooked!
3 lbs Ground beef 80/20
1/2 Medium or 1 small white onion, chopped fine
2 Tbsp tomato paste
1 1/2 Cups water
10 Tbsp chili powder
2 Tsp ground cumin
1 Tsp ground black pepper
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard
1/4 Cup Franks Red Hot sauce
2 Tsp chicken bullion powder
In a large skillet on medium heat, brown beef and onion. Skim off some of the fat if desired. Stir in tomato paste and water, add all the spices , cover and simmer on low for 1 hour or until meat is soft. Keep an eye on it and add more water as needed, don’t let it dry out!
Serve sauce on top of hot dog with mustard and chopped onion for a Detroit Coney Dog!! Yum-O!!
