Onion Gravy Mix

This onion gravy mix makes a thick, rich and delicious onion gravy good for anything that needs gravy!! meat potatoes, spätzle, noodles, rice, chicken, roasted vegetables, pasties, etc…

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: All-purpose flour, cornstarch, freeze dried onions, onion powder, garlic powder, parsley, beef bouillon, salt and pepper.

Variations: Arrow root can replace cornstarch if desired, dehydrated onions can be used instead of freeze dried, any bouillon flavor you prefer can be used!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 2  all purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 powdered beef bouillon

  • i tsp i garlic powder

  • 1 tsp 1 sweet paprika

  • 3/4 tsp 3/4 ground black pepper

  • 1 tsp 1 salt

  • 1 tsp 1 dried parsley

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 dried, minced onion

  • 2 tbsp 2 onion powder

Directions

  • Whisk everything together in a bowl and put into an airtight container.
  • Use within the year or vacuum seal in Mylar bags for long term storage.
  • To use: Melt 2 tablespoons of fat (butter, shortening, beef fat, bacon fat) in a sauce pan, add 2 tablespoons of gravy mix, cook on medium-low heat for 3 minutes (making a roux), then pour in 1 cup water, broth or beer. Whisk and cook until thickened. Whisk in 1 tablespoon or Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 teaspoon of browning sauce, such as Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet. These additions will make your gravy a deep, dark color an add excellent flavor.!
