Buns for Hamburgers & Hot Dogs

These buns are so good and easy to make, as they take no special ingredients and use all purpose flour. This recipe is a delicious egg bread and the beautiful dough very forgiving. You’ve gotta give these buns a try!

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: This recipes uses all purpose flour, eggs, butter, powdered milk, sugar, salt and water. Easy Peasy!

Variations: Bread flour can be used to make a lighter bun or half of the flour can be substituted for whole wheat flour. Honey can be subbed out for sugar and any oil can be used in place of butter. Water and milk powder can be replaced with scaled milk.

These buns can be flavored as well, add some garlic powder, Italian seasoning, taco seasoning or a sweeter versions with some citrus zest perhaps.

Rich & delicious egg bread buns!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup 1 1/4 warm water

  • 2 1/4` tsp 2 1/4` instant yeast

  • 3 tbsp 3 granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 butter, softened

  • 1 3/4 tsp 1 3/4 salt

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 dry milk powder

  • 3 1/2 – 4 cups 3 1/2 – 4 all purpose flour

  • 2 2 eggs, divided

Directions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk water, yeast and sugar. Let set for 10 minutes.
  • Add 1 egg, 3 1/2 cups of flour and the rest of the ingredients to the yeast mixture. Mix into a dough adding the last 1/2 cup of flour if needed. Knead dough 7 minutes on speed 1. Transfer dough to oiled bowl, turn dough over coating it with oil. Cover bowl and place in a warm area to rise 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Pour dough out onto clean surface, cut dough in half and cut each half into 6 pieces. Pull ends out and tuck in, roll into a ball. Put onto a parchment lined sheet pan. Cover and let rest for 5 minutes.
  • Uncover and shape buns. Hamburger buns: Flatten into a 4 inch disc. Hot dog buns: Roll into an 8 inch bun. Cover pans and let rise 1 1/2 hours.
  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Beat remaining egg and brush buns with an even coating of egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  • Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until tops turn golden.
