Buttermilk (Sour Milk)

Making buttermilk or sour milk from your pantry stored dry milk powder.

You can use non fat dry milk powder or whole milk powder. If you are using instant milk powder, you will need to double it. Lemon juice (bottled or fresh) or vinegar (ACV or white) can be used. Lemon juice gives the best flavor.

Buttermilk from dry powdered milk.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 1 filtered water

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 dry powdered milk

  • 1 tbsp 1 lemon juice or vinegar

Directions

  • Whisk all ingredients together and refrigerate for 30 minutes for best results.
  • Enjoy as a drink or use in recipes that call for buttermilk such as cakes, breads, muffins, sauces and drinks.
