Country Fried Spam

Spam… We are all stocking it, How do we eat it?? Here is one way and it’s delicious! Move over fried chicken… Spam is in town!

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: Spam, eggs, hot sauce, all purpose flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, onion powder, salt and pepper.

Variations: Ude gluten free flour in place of all purpose if you like, You can use low sodium spam turkey spam or flavored spam, leave out the spicy stuff if you don’t like heat!

the best way to eat Spam!

Ingredients

  • 1 can Spam, cut into 1/4 inch slices

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp seasoned salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 dashes hot sauce

  • oil for frying such as vegetable, peanut or canola

  • 3-4 cups Whole Milk *optional

Directions

  • heat 2 inches of oil in heavy frying pan until bubble form around a handle of a wooden spoon.
  • mix flour, cornstarch and seasonings together and set aside.
  • Whisk eggs and hot sauce together in a separate bowl.
  • dredge Spam slices in flour mixture then in eggs then back in flour until covered.
  • put into hot oil and fry until golden brown, 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • OPTIONAL GRAVY: Remove most of the oli from the pan leaving only a couple tablespoons. Add the leftover flour mixture from dredging the Spam and whisk over medium heat cooking the roux for 3 minutes, slowly whisk in milk and cook until thick. Add milk and cook until it reaches desired consistency. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve Spam with milk gravy over top if desired.
