Slow Cooker Swiss Steak Soup

This is a delicious way to enjoy your old fashioned swiss steak! Cold weather is quickly approaching and this stick to your ribs soup will keep you warm!

Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients: Bottom round steak, canned diced tomatoes, pearl onions, green bell pepper, beef broth, tomato paste, oil, all purpose flour, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.

Variations: Any steak cut you have is fine to use, red bell pepper can be used instead of green, chopped onions can be subbed for pearl onions, replace all purpose flour gluten free if desired. with use the seasonings you like best!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs round or bottom round steak, cut into bite sized cubes

  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp seasoned salt or salt

  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil – for frying

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 32 oz diced or stewed tomatoes

  • 6 cups beef broth

  • 1 12oz bag frozen pearl onions

  • 1 green bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cups diced potatoes

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper

  • a pinch of cayenne pepper

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 2 envelopes Lipton onion soup mix

Directions

  • After dicing meat, toss it with seasoned salt and pepper, then flour. Heat oil in heavy sklltet on med-high heat.
  • Working in batches, fry steak until just seared on all sides, drop into slow cooker.
  • Add tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes, soup mix, tomato paste and seasonings to slow cooker and set on low.
  • After meat is done, add the remaining flour from bowl the meat was tossed in to oil and cook for 3 minutes, whisk in 2 cups of beef broth and add it directly to the slow cooker, stir in the remaining broth and cook on low 8-10 hours.
